Pentax KM

You wont find many Pentax users on the forum as most here use Nikon or Canon but there are plenty of reviews on the net such as this and this which should get you started. Also look for reviews of the Pentax K2000 which is the same model but renamed for the American market.

I use Pentax.

The Pentax KM is over 30 years old. I've got two KX bodies of similar vintage, still going strong.

The more recent model is the K-m and it's said to have quicker focusing in low light than the current more expensive models in the range. Even so, you should wait for the shake reduction to do its stuff before snapping.

The body is small and owners of the pricier models have been happy to buy one for a family member so lenses can be shared and the K-m used in riskier situations.

Unfortunately, Pentax lenses are going to suffer a large price increase shortly, but the K-m with a 21mm lens makes a compact package.

Why? Something to do with them being bought by Hoya?

Because of the exchange rate.
Whereas Nikon, Canon and Sigma (to name but a few) have had a few increases this year Pentax have not so the jump is going to be a big one .. in some cases the lens prices are going to double.
I bought the new Pentax DA* 60-250mm f4 a few weeks ago for £799, new price is around £1100
Pentax DA* 50-135mm f2.8 .. Old Price ... New Price

Where did you read this?

No wonder they have recently contracted their repairs out to another company.
OUTDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY mag - July issue (P16):-

"Pentax is to move the European HQ of it's imaging systems business from the UK to Paris. The main reason is the strong position of Pentax in the French camera market. The new Eu HQ is expected to be operational from October.
As part of the reorganisation Pentax will outsource all camera after sales activities to 3rd parties from this month."

Further to the above re Pentax move to paris.

I found this:-
http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Pentax-headquarters-moves-to-Paris-11404

"Whilst the European headquarters is relocating, the business for the UK will be handled by the same team as usual and business operations will remain unchanged".

Now not quite sure what is going and what is staying.
Also the story has been around for a couple of months.

Interesting.

I have a scratch on my K10D sensor caused my overzealous use of a rocket blower and have been meaning to get it sent off to Pentax for the last few months but they have been taking weeks to return fixed items. I noticed the other day they have now outsourced all their repairs and whereas Pentax would return the camera for free if you didnt want the work done the new company charge.
