Ok my dad has an old Ricoh XR1 SLR film camera which uses pentax lenses,
At the moment i am looking to buy a new SlR camera and i wonder'd if i bought just the body too a Pentax K-X or a K-7 i would be able too use the old pentax lenses?

No expert but i think the answer is yes. I think the lenses marked 'A' will autofocus but the fitting is the same for all old Pentax manual focus lenses and there are some real beauties out there.

If you can afford it go for the K-7
 
Yes they will all work fine.
If they have the A setting on the aperture ring then they will auto meter and you will be able to set the aperture from the body. If no A then they will still work but everything is done manually (although easier than most as the metering is done with the green button on the camera).

AF is only possible with a lens that has that ability, just because it has the A setting it doesn't mean it can autofocus.

The K-7 is a superb camera(as is the K-x) but if you want to list the lenses here I am happy to let you know if they are worth buying into Pentax for .. if not then you may want to look at another brand of camera.
 
I googled for XR-1 and it appears to use the Pentax K mount.

Therefore you can use its lenses on the K-X or K-7. If they are PK-A lenses you set the aperture on the camera; if they're PK-M lenses you set the aperture on the lens and will have to meter using stop-down metering (on my Pentax K100D I press a button next to the shutter).

If there are any older M42 screwmount lenses, they can be mounted via an M42-to-K-mount adapter.
 
Normally round the front of the lens but it may be on the body somewhere.

For instance this is an old Pentax-A 50mm 1:2 (f2)

Although I love using Pentax gear, unlike a lot of die hard brand fanatics on here I wouldn't say it was better than this brand or that make. On the basis of those lenses I wouldn't let them restrict your choice of camera so go have a look at all the rest and make up your mind from there.

Very good Scott .. also has included different fittings for other makes of camera so will go on your Nikon as well.
 
Good advice/warnings so far. There's a setting to use the aperture ring which'll need enabling. For lenses without the A setting, you can press the green button on the camera, and it'll set the metered exposure for you.
