Pentax PK mount on Canon 5D Mkii?

I'm trying to work out whether I can mount a Pentax PK mount lens onto a 5D Mkii and can't find a definitive answer on the internet - will I have to cut off the aperture lever to make it work on the 5D?

They seem to sell PK to EOS adapters on the Internet but do they work in FF without hitting the mirror?
 
I have several PK lens that I use on my 450D. I use a metal mount focus confirm adapter and I have been informed that if I wish to use a PK lens on a Canon full frame I need to remove the aperture lever to stop it fouling the mirror.

Please stop killing lenses that Pentax owners can still use. From this side of the fence it's really rude, as it is typically old lenses that are no longer manufactured that get butchered in this way.

Rude???? Sorry but I found that comment quite funny... I don't mean to be rude about it but didn't realise anybody would care so much!
 
Well, it's a bit annoying as a pentax user to see "recommend me a first DSLR" threads where Pentax is blasted for a lack of lenses, and then simultaneously see regular threads like these where other brand's users want Pentax lenses so much they are willing to effectively kill them for Pentax users! It's just rude :)
 
Brian - it's not the lack of Pentax lenses that they are criticised for, it's the absolute absence of anything over 300mm.
 
I'd disagree a bit - I reckon that Pentax owners complain about the lack of long glass (which admittedly can be a problem), but other system owners tend to have a more general impression that there are no Pentax lenses in such threads!

I think it goes well beyond rude ... it's Cannibalism pure and simple. :eek:

Actually I quite agree with Brian, Pentax have a lot of very good old K mount lenses that work perfectly well with all DSLR's released and to have them butchered by Canon users is bloody annoying at best.

Wouldn't be so bad if the modification was reversable.


Anyway, off to look for an adapter to use my Pentax A* 300mm f2.8 on my 50D now.
 
Don't worry - the lens I was thinking of cannibalising is one which is still in production would you believe, but I decided against it so be happy! ;)
 
Just out of interest what was it?

A couple of favourites with Canon users are the 50mm 1.2 and 200mm f4 macro. Both rare now (esp the macro) and fetch very good money if you can find one. Would give my right arm for a FA 200mm f4 macro actually.


Edit: on second thought maybe not, I wouldn't be able to hold it if I did that.

Ahh, then I take it all back - buy the lens and hack away. I'm more than happy to have Canon users building demand for current Pentax glass :) :thumbs:

Hey, I get disturbed by people hacking Canon FL 50mm f/1.2 lenses into an EF mount that would work very nicely on my old Canon FT QL. :gag: ;)
