Personal Experiance Of Red Snapper 284 Tripod...

For the money you can't beat the RS range. In fact, you'll have to fork out quite a bit more to match it. Go for it! :D
 
I have a 283 n ballhead, very good sturdy tripod you'd think would cost a lot more.
 
Oops, meant to add I've got the 283 plus a Manfrotto 486 head. I think the 283 is meant to be a little bit sturdier with only the 3 sections, but doesn't pack as small.
 
I've also got the 283, I'd describe it as rock solid. I'm very pleased with it, it came with a nice bag and a small center column as well as the large one.
Well worth it

Looking at the specs the 284 folds up smaller but is not as tall in use as the 283,
