Petition: Cancel HS2 and use the money for the NHS and local economies, post Covid-19.

Change the decision to proceed with HS2 and use the billions of pounds to help the NHS and the economy recover.

IMO HS2 was questionable before they even broke ground.

However, a bit like the post Depression New Deal in the USA, such a major infrastructure project is/can be seen as needed for jobs generation.......or (even though it was started before Johnson was PM) it might be his "Thames Estuary airport project" in a new incarnation???

Hence, as I perceive it, it is not as straightforward as 'shutting it down' in favour of spending the money elsewhere.

PS I wonder if they did suspend/cancel it just what would happen to the already well advanced elements of the project......could they be re-imagined into anything worthwhile that will ultimately be beneficial to the economy???

The problem with HS2 is that the project will be run by the muppets who failed on CrossRail and the electrification of the Great Western Main Line
