After a few days trying to get in then getting booted by my PC I have decided to upgrade as my HDD was playing up, One of my 160s (sata) decided it had had enough so I decided it was time to upgrade so a 1TERABYTE was in order.............got a 1 TB hard drive and installed .....its only showing 850gb ............In the olden days when Win98 was king and we all looked up at a 2.1gb a couple of megs going didnt bother us but 150gb:shrug:

My 1 TB comes up as 931 GB (1 million + bytes). The manufacturers calculate size to their advantage but 850 seems to fall somewhat short. Is there anything preinstalled on it hidden partition maybe? What make is it?

Normally you would expect to "lose" about 8% with a format so your loss does seem a bit high.

When i go into my computer and disk properties it does show up as a 1 tb drive but just looking its only showing 850 ut like a plonker thats with Vista installed lol so it shows as over 900gb now
