Photium or Bludomain

I need to build a website for my photos with the option to buy them online (so a cart and shopping gallery implemented) reading tthe forums here I have been thinking between Photium or Bludomain.

Just I still cannot decide.

Photium is quite good and cheaper, but the customisation is really poor and all the websites look the same.

Bludomain is quite epxensive (the 100$ templates are not worth in my opinion) and the templates are great, but being completely flash based I am afraid it will limit the number of customers reached.

I would like to hear something from people that actually are using these websites (experience, customisation, customer service, etc)

and also have a look the way you have customised your template.

All have gallery extensions and shopping carts and there are plenty of free templates available.
 
Bludomain are great templates. I use one myself. The only issue is there's not too much you can tweek in some of the templates. Customer service is pretty dire if you need it too, although I haven't needed it since I had it installed.

I don't think having a flash site makes any difference to the number of customers the site is seen by. As long as the site is fast to load, people wont care. ( except for the select few that don't like any new web enabled technologies, but then why worry about such a tiny percentage.

I use both :D and I am quite happy with them, I use the Photium template for my equine work and BluDomain for weddings. The initial cost of BluDomain is higher but that is a one off fee whereas with Photium it is annual charge depending on how many images you have. I have had to 'upgrade' my Photium site a few times this year and buy extra storage due to the amount of images I have on there.

I have heard a few complaints about BluDomain customer service but to balance that I have had to contact them on a couple of occasions about issues I had (which turned out to be due to my incompetence! :lol:) and on both occasions the customer service was very good and I could not fault it. What you have to remember is that they are a few hours behind us and as such replies can be delayed.
 
I use Photium. Downtime is unheard of, and any queries are dealt with very promptly. The only gripe I have is the daft file size limit of 600 pixels on the longest side and 100kb physical file size, which really doesn't show images at their best and to my mind is it's biggest weakness for a photo based site, so it's a pretty major gripe I suppose. Anyway, if I go looking elsewhere, that will be the reason, but otherwise it's ideal for me.

I really like Bludomain, i have a $400 template one if you think $100 is expensive ! I think $100 for a template is a bargain, the best one at the moment i think is this one.

For $100 you get both the Flash and HTML site, thats £60! You will not find a programmer to do that much work for £60 anywhere. Once you have paid it, the template belongs to you and you can sell it off subsequently should you want to.

The hosting is fixed at $100 for the year with unlimited emails, storage and bandwidth (actually 3G but they say they'll increase it when you need it.
