I'm looking to get a backpack with both camera and laptop holders with room for general "stuff" too. Not that there's anything wrong with my Crumpler, but there are occasions, I need to take a lappy with me for work (not photography). The one that has caught my eye is the Tamrac Aero 85 which, whilst it doesn't say waterproof does indicate it has waterproofing along the zips etc. Does anyone have any experience of this pack ? Any other recommendations around the same price mark ?

Thanks in advance

I ordered the Aero 85 from warehouse express and it's arrived today. First impressions are it's a well put together bit of kit, with far more room than I need at the moment (hopefully that'll change though :D).

They do a full rain cover for really bad weather in the accessories and the smaller one will fit the 3385.
I have one for my Expedition 8 when the weather turns really bad.

Have you looked at the FastPack 350 from Lowepro. I couldn't do without mine.

Thanks very much Psifox, I'll look one out.

Tony, it looks very similar.

i bought one of ebay for £35 and its a brand called GEM i can hold 2 slr bodies about 6 8 lenses and accessories and a lappy compartment and a compartment for books etc. it even includes a rain cover.

Thanks all. Graham, I don't have any L glass so that's not a problem at the mo :D. All my lenses are plastic bodied...

not with buying all that Astro kit, not for some time :D

Would that rain cover be "Tamrac M.A.S. Rain Cover - Medium MX5352" ?

;) Simple, just pack more sandwiches!

Thanks Ruth. I got to give it a quick test last night, and it holds all my camera gear and some... loads of room to spare (In fact I had to add some padding for the nifty fifty to stop it bouncing around :)). The straps are well padded and comfortable. Naboo32, that's a good idea  I like that.

I've got the Fastpack 350, it holds a 17" Laptop without taking up any important camera space. I bought a waterproof cover from fleabay for £5 that fits rather nice

I was looking for a new bag to take on holiday and this looks like it could be ideal. Is there plenty of room in the top section for other gubbins such as passports/tickets etc as I would be using it as hand luggage obviously? BTW you must have got the last one as it is showing as pre-order at the moment.

Marc, It was the last one, I spoke to them about it... :D Sorry. The top section is not really big, but will hold a reasonable amount of stuff, a book, tickets, passport, ipod etc. If you'd like, I'll grab a shot of it later with something like the kit lens in it so you can get an idea of scale. In fact, I can grab shots of the camera section loaded up with all my gear (that's a laugh :D), too.

That would be great John. I never trust the promo shots of these bags. I once bought a crumpler bag because the photo showed a body and two lenses. When the bag arrived it could barely hold a body and two CONTACT lenses! :shake:

John,
I have the Tamrac expedition 7x
Just had a quick measure up and there is a lappy section around 11 ins x 14 ins.
got mine from flea bay around £80 IIRC

Edit, Just checked fleabay & holy crap they are having a laugh! I haven't had mine that long!

Marc, here you go, not the greatest, shot with the Z2 and popup flash, but they show the sizes...

Top section with 450d + kit lens for an idea of scale

Left - Nifty Fifty, Kit lens, Timer remote
Middle - 450d+55-250, Raynox DCR250 in it's box
Jessops 300AFD

I've used some thing packing foam folded up to pack out the holes... The 55-250 will fit vertically, probably with room to spare in there.

Hope that helps.

:D Good luck with that Marc....
