I thought that Chewy had CSIV? :D

Circumplex Scales of Interpersonal Values:shrug:

:D

Ive spent the last hour and a half looking for lucozade adverts in the hope that the year could be confirmed. I didnt manage to find that particular advert though:(

Funny though, of all the ads i found, non had the bottle featured next to a wine glass, as they have in the OP's pic, suggesting they were marketing towards woman more consciously.
An 1953 advert i found featured a sick child being administered lucozade, which was a similar theme for that period. Whereas in 1963, an ad featured a comic strip about a husband giving his wife grief for not cooking the supper properly. To which her friend advises lucozade. I know this is all pretty vague,
pseudo-investigatory and probably not helping much, but i was bored and got the curiosity bug.

But it looks like 1959 is likely, given what info we have.

I found a similar advert with the bottle and glass.....

Bear with me, I'll find it again

Absolutely intrigued by this . . . I hope you get an answer soon.
Have you thought about writing to the Echo and Western Mail to see if they can help? They might be able to trace that cartoon and advert.

Unfortunately I'm browsing on a really small screen tonight, so can't see much at all in those photos.
Looks like the Lucozade bottle and glass advert has been around since the early 50s though.
Have a look here. If you enlarge the ad with the glass in, it looks like it's dated either 1951 or 1953 . . . can't quite make it out on this screen :bang:

Thanks so much for all of this work!

Apologies, it was bottle and bottle.

The closest dated advert I could find was 1964 and this

That's only about 800 X 500 no where near 8mb :)

Right, photobucket playing up, last try, will post link to scan again!

Hi Sarah, Yep, next step was to write the the Echo. Interesting that allot of the guesses seem early 50's, think that would seem to be out by a few years based on a conversation with my Dad but you never know!

That one has come out at 1024, but i think your first pic is a 100% crop anyway, so i dont think there is any more pixels to upload.

What pixel dimensions does it appear on your computer straight from the scanner?

edit - your first cropped pic is 800x615 and is half of the whole pic. The flickr one is 1024x650, so either the first crop was enlarged or the flickr one is not full size. Either way though, i think the first crop picture is as much pixel as we are gonna get. The flickr one would need to be 1600x1230 just to have the same detail as the first crop. So unless the original is 3800x2400 i dont see this avenue of investigation being effective.

Is it possible just to scan that part of the negative at a ludicrously high DPI?

You can then flip the negative which will hold more detail than the print ever will.

Or reverse a lens at around 24mm and macro shoot that part of the negative, or what ever the original physical specimen is?

Edit- "8063x12704" holy jesus! I guess this avenue aint quite closed yet then!

Dayum!

double edit - Wait! Why the need to re-scan, i thought you had the mammoth jpeg already?

why cant you upload the scan to flickr? or do you need to enable us to view full sizes?

Ballsed if I know from that!

You have looked on the back of the print to make sure that someone hasn't written the date haven't you?? Half of th eold photos I have have got "scarbrough 1984" or equivalent on them!

That bit of the paper is a bit OOF, Ive tried attacking it with Unsharp mask but i dont think there's much there to sharpen. I think i can see a nine at the end of the date though, but i might be seeing things...

Yup :) I tried sharpening, unsharpening, adding contrast, twiddling exposure, converting to mono and like you was convinced I saw a 9 at the end but now I'm not so sure.

Maybe try scanning again to see if you could get a tiny bit more sharpness out of it, try it upside down or something *shrugs*

I thought February.

November 16th :D
