photo printers

and how many / often

yea sorry should be more specific lol

only up to A4.

just i had some prints at ASDA yesterday and they had like small red and green speckles on in places and looked a poor print.....

.....so i didnt know if it was worth getting my own printer or is it best to take it to a more professional photo shop?

The prints you had done at ASDA, were they done through a 'photo kiosk', ie via a touch screen and an instant printer?

If it was then it was a dye sublimation printer, and like as not a Sony, and if it was , it sounds like it is not being maintained properly.

There are many dye sub printers out there, from different manufacturers, they are not cheap, but if you are doing alot of print production , they are worth the investment.

There are two main catagories - rol feed machines to do sizes of 6x4, 7x5 and 6x9", and another category that do 10x8's, and 12x8's.

I use a Canon Pixma ip4600 and it's just excellent - the photo's are better than any lab I have used.

I have an HP7260 which I bought directly off HP website at a cracking price.
It has the benefit of seperate ink cartridges so is very cheap to run and produces some good crisp results.

It prints up to A4.

I alos have a Canon Selphy 500 which is super for 6x4 although a bit pricey to run!!

Hope this helps!!

I have just brought myself a Canon IP4700 and a CSS. For doing exactly what you are. The results are amazing.

Just my 2p worth :)

Excellent find, I need a new printer.

Best places for the best prices?

I got my 4700 from Amazon as I have prime, for £78

And my Css from CityInk for £40

Agree with all the reccomendations for canon printers. I've got an IP6700, which has now been replaced by the 4600. If you spend the money to buy the best canon paper you'll get amazing prints, far better than froma lab. The only downside is the cost per print, but if you only want a few images it's hard to beat. The prints are virtually indestructable as well. You can submerse them in water and nothing at all happens!

is this upto A4 size??

Yep sure is, and has two paper trays, I have Gloss in on and Matt in the other.

Borderless and all the normal good stuff. Also even if you decide to buy Canon Ink, it is a good price. But the CSS makes it cheap as chips to print at home.

I'd get an IP4600(great) and for most ofyour photos if you're not in a rush, just use Aldi or Tesco online. They're very good value.
