Do you guys print your photo's at home or get them done somewhere?
What printers do you recommend?
Ideally I would like to do some portrait shoots, will need a reasonably priced printer and Ink as I currently have a Lexmark and the cost of cartridges is unbelievable!

Depends how many you're going to print. I generally use DS Colour labs in Manchester. If you order before 14.00 they come next day, not the cheapest postage but great quality and reliable.

I use Samsphotolab.

Great prices and quality

David gives a great personal touch to his service - often remarking on the photos

Also I sent in some shots to be printed in 12 x 8 once, and I didn't have a calibrated monitor. He didn't know this but he printed them out twice after lightening them and sent me all the copies at no extra cost

Cannot fault him

Is this for a business or personal use?

How many images do you envisage printing a year?

What sort of sizes are you considering?

Personal at the moment until I build a portfolio up and hopefully do it as an additional income.
So have really got amounts in mind but probably the usual 3 10x8" and a few smaller (wallet etc) at a time

I do most of my printing here at home - not commercially but for myself and friends (for cost), only really farming out large batches which go to wherever's cheapest on the high street (these 6x4s often get used as proofs to see which are worth processing for larger sizes [up to A3])

Use someone else for your printing, it's much less hassle, especially if you have a local pro lab. Let them worry about profiling the papers and inks etc and if they mess it up it's them who foots the bill, not you!

If it's in the tens rather than hundreds a year - then as others have said - order your prints online.

I'd only consider a printer purchase if it were to earn its keep.

I'm only just begining with photography, but I used Snapfish as a service when I wanted some prints.

I was really impressed, very cheap, quick and the quality was top notch. I think they are somethingto do with HP. Snapfish regularly get voted top in comparrisons of online printing services.
