Morning all.. have a little Christmas cash left over and am thinking of buying some photo editing software - being a novice to photography can anyone kindly recommend a real user friendly one? There seems to be so many offering the same sort of product. I've seen Adobe Photo Elements 9 via pcworld for £60 - good buy? Cheers all and HNY....
 
The absolute best buy is Lightroom 3 - a little more than your budget at around £180 - but worth waiting for. Designed for digital photographers. Download trial versions and see what you like.
 
Thanks Andrew, downloading a trial version as I type this so fingers crossed... More than I ever thought of paying and if the wife found out, she'd cut my jacobs off!
 
Hi I'm sure I read on the suppliers thread someone posted Jacobs were doing PE9 for £49 on store
 
I found Elements 9 to be perfectly adequate for photo editing. A lot of tutorials can also be found online for Elements, which helps boost the learning process no end.
 
If you are a student or work at a school, uni or charity, you can get Lightroom for around your budget. It's absolutely superb IMO, one of the best bits of software I've used for any purpose.
 
David - are you looking to edit RAW or JPG? The fact you mention PSE9 suggests the latter. Lightroom is a RAW editor.
 
Lightroom edits raw and jpeg with equal ease!!
 
Don't forget that Elements is very well supported by thousands of on line tutorials and hundreds in various magazines. I use Lightroom 3 and Elements 9.

I'll accept what you say, I have PSE7 which I use for JPG editing which has a very noddy RAW converter, but I do most of my processing to the RAW file for which I use Canon photo pro or SilkyPix.
 
Serif Photoplus might be worth a look to, not used it much but I do use their vector software and its superb. You get a lot with your money from Serif (£70 for PhotoPlus) and they are a local firm based in UK

Morning all, thanks for all the shouts, massively appreciated. Only jumped back on this this morning as ended up buying PSE9 yesterday for £57. Not really done too much with it at this stage but spent most of the night watching videos on the internet (PSE ones, honest guv!). Thanks again guys, really appreciate it. Dave. Ps. Also downloaded the trial version of lightroom but no matter how many times I told the wife she looked gorgeous, it was still a no!

I bought PSE9 from Adobe.com when they had a 36% saving... worked out about £47 when the upgrade from PSE8 was still £59.99.
 
PSE9 is a very powerful program. I love it!!
