Photo whilst taking video freezes video Canon 60d

Hi,

I got a new camera with video capabilities (canon 60d) and took it on holiday.
I found out that I could take photos whilst filming and get both!
But when I got back from holiday and imported my shots the videos would freeze when I took the photo. Why did this happen? why does the camera allow it to happen? how can I prevent it from happening? is the card too slow? is the cameras processor to slow? can I fix my videos?

I'm using a Sandisk extreme 32gb 45mb/s SD card

It's what it does. It states clearly in the manual that's what it does.

It creates two video files, up until you take the shot then after.
