Hello,

Our wedding photo from the photographer 7 years ago was called 'heat seal finish' - it does not need to go behind glass. I have over the years got very interested in photography and have photographed my sister-in-laws wedding, and she wants to order her big print for hanging up. Can anyone tell me what is the name of the finish I am looking for?? I can't find heat sealed anywhere so must be called something else. She does not really want to have a matt print to put behind glass and wants what I have.

Hope someone can help!

The "Heat Seal Finish" is a laminate that is applied over the top of the print. It is sometimes referred to as gloss or matte laminate depending on the finish. The process involves applying a clear laminate over the print using a press . This is best done by a lab that specialises in this process as you don't want dirt or air bubbles spoiling the result.

Try labs such as Loxley or Colorworld

the laminate can be done both hot (with pressure) and cold (with pressure)...

Hot Press is the main company - you'll find the presses appear in ebay for a few hundred to a few thousand - and the materials are about £100 per roll of 25m

So unless you really are getting into things big style use a lab...

Thank you so much. Would def not be attempting this myself, I had looked though the Loxley web site but can't find what I need. Would they call the it something other than heat seal???

Look under mounting and laminating.

Heat sealing is probably a redundant term nowadays. Laminating is a more accurate term as it describes the method of applying the protective membrane to the print..
