Its been over 2 months since I last had the chance to use my camera and I can't find any inspiration to make me pick it up and use it ...... I have had an issue with lack of inspiration for a while now due to the bleak Essex landscape and also dull poor light. Is there anyone else needing some inspiration?

Paul

Why not try the 52 project Paul, only a couple to catch up,certainly makes you think and plan a shot.....Mick

Sometimes it happens, some weeks or maybe even months you dont have any inspiration. All I can think of it go out for a drive at different times of the day taking pictures, maybe even at night with some car trails or do a time lapse.

Definitely having a lapse of inspiration - I'm putting it down to a combination of not being able to get out due to the weather, and coming to the end of a photo-365. I dragged the camera out on new years day to shoot my local villages annual Soapbox Derby, and i've done a couple of attempts at shoots for this months TP Competition, but i'm just not really feeling it at the moment. Digital Camera's out on loan to a mate until the end of the month, so i'm on film for a couple of weeks. Pity the lights been as flat as the proverbial.

I've suffered the same over the last couple of months. Went to Camden Market at the weekend with a friend and did some street/market stuff to get the mojo going again. Sometimes it's just forcing yourself to get out there with the camera and sometimes outside of (at times) inspirationless Essex.

Certainly a good idea but i'm just not seeing anything that makes me think I would like a photo of that......???

I have even stopped entering the Camera Club printed/projected images competitions.

Thx for the comments ...at least shows me I'm not all alone in this (kindred spirits and all that) .....

Must be toggers virus :(

I've only picked up my camera once since Boxing Day. And that was for a job.

Was going to force myself out this week, but my Mac died and is in for repair until the weekend most likely. (I know you don't need a computer to shoot, but I'm keeping my CF cards as an extra back-up of the job I shot, until I get my Mac back).

Might dig a film body out tomorrow and try some double exposure ideas I never got around to doing.

Just make yourself take it out. Even if you're not going anywhere enteresting, just take the camera with you. Never know when you'll find something interesting.

I'm the opposite to this and havnt posted to gloat but knowing that this time of year can be a bit hard cos of post xmas blues and less than appealing weather set myself a little project in line with progression of camera / photography skills.

If a 52 seems a bit ambitious, search flickr / here for any photos that you like and then set yourself the project to re-create? When you start getting results then hopefully the success will bring back the mojo?

Arent we success driven when using the camera?

I have been suffering from the same problem. Too many other things on my mind I guess. I've just finished putting my picture a week project for 2009 to bed and posted the remaining shots on my website. It was very satisfying finishing the project and I plan to do it again this year. All that's left to do is a bit of a printing session later on today.

So, if you have any unfinished projects, maybe try finishing them off.

I'm sure the motivation will return eventually.

Hi Paul

I don't understand this comment. The 52 challenge just draws a word each week - it's up to you to interpret it.

I was in exactly the same position as you a couple of months ago - I even posted a thread about it (search by my name if you want to !). The 52 challenge has really fired my enthusiasm. To be honest I'm a pretty crappy photographer, but I don't care now - I just look forward to the challenge each week. For me it's 2 challenges - firstly how to interpret the subject, and secondly, technically how to photograph my interpretation.Whether I'll be a better photographer at the end of I don't know, but what I do know is I'm using my gear now and having fun.

I'm also going to make a photobook at the end of the year of all of my entries, so again this keeps my interest.

I hope you get your mojo back soon,

Andy

A "52" or picture a week project can be a daunting prospect and if you fall behind, it's very easy to get demoralised or demotivated.

A couple of things have just sprung to mind. Ask yourself why you take pictures and for whom. What is it you enjoy? What really lights your candle?

About 10 years ago I was lucky enough to go on a fine printing course run by Barry Thornton. It was an incredible learning experience. At the end of the course, he looked at my work and then said "take pictures of things that bother you".
So I did. Eventually, I had enough material to enable me to mount my own solo exhibition called "My Home Town".

So, why not think about what bothers you and try to photograph it? It worked for me, so it might do the same for you.

Ultimately, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If needs be, do something completely different. When I was in the doldrums during the latter quarter of last year, I learned to bake bread. We haven't bought a shop-bought loaf for months.

Hammerhead. Do you fancy a jaunt into london one day / night?

I'm only in upminster and its a 20 min train ride !!

The offer is there.... if we still can't get inspired, we can get drunk instead !!! lol

now is the time for experimentation with taking pictures under adverse conditions
converting to black to white could save a lot of dull shots
thinks..why arent mine all black to white

no sun that morning..

Thx everyone ..... for the support, comments and ideas. Sorry but due to other commitments and that my ageing PC takes ages to boot up I don't get on here as much.

Lasagne: to explain my comment (or try at least) My photography is for me exactly that ..... its mine so I only take a photo if I have an image in mind or I see something that I think "I would like to remember that".

kiasdad: I think has hit on the problem in that my life (workwise) has changed dramatically in the past year and I have lots of other things on my mind and can't get anytime to focus.

wrx_dazza: London is perfect inspiration but I'm a Nikon user??? Had planned a trip with Dal but not got round to it. Up for it if we can organise around other things?

I have recently been asked to do some portraits for a friend which has got me keen to pick up the D300 again so maybe this is my answer? "I need to get a job in a portrait studio" ????? LOL

Thx again everyone who has commented so far.

Paul

Got 5 people now for studio shoot so looks like this may be the "jump start" or "kick up the backside" I need???
