Hi all,

This is my first post, wondering if you guys could help me out.

I have been asked to take some pictures for a website for a friend of mine. His business is selling cars as well as mechanics. He has a workshop and a huge outdoor space filled with cars.

What would be the best shots you would recommend to take, can anyone lend any ideas or post up any suggestions.

I'm shooting with a D50 coupled with a 50 1.8D Nikkor and 18-200 Tamron lens.

Let me know yours thoughts.

Jamie

I did some shots for our new bodyshop at work, used a tripod, ISO 100, 1 second exposures to make the most of the slightly weird light, adjusted the white balance for tungsten lighting and used a small aperture to ensure sufficient depth of field throughout the bodyshop.

The image at the bottom of this page http://www.specialistcarsltd.co.uk/special/services was what I ended up with.

HTH.

I'm thinking something a lot wider than a 50mm would be useful here. Or do a panorama and stitch em together.

D'oh - just re-read your post and now see the 18 - 200.

Forget I spoke. 18mm will do fine.

Cheers for your opinions, I'll post up the shots I manage to create.

Best bet is shoot RAW then alter the white balance, industrial lighting normally found in garages makes everything weirdly tinted. As Mark said a tripod is going to be essential with a long enough exposure to get good details out of the shadows.

Your 18mm on a crop body might not be so wide but you'd need to see the place first, a tripod will be a must as has already been said if you want to shoot with decent DOF.

Wide-angle, tripod and I would take a sequence of exposures for a *subtle* HDR. I keep meaning to ask a local garage I use if I can have a shoot - their backroom bike workshop looks perfect for the technique. Good luck and please share the results.
