Photographing the meteor shower

I am new to this whole malarky. I have never photographed stars before. And I shall be out all night so i will be getting a lot done.

I tested it last night out the bedroom window. I had a 30 second shutter speed with the Ap letting in as much as possible. The camera was on a tripod. But yet when I looked at the photos the stars were blurry.

Any ideas on what I did wrong?

Did you set the focus to infinity?

Is the tripod stable?

Did you use mirror lock-up and a remote shutter release or the timer?

I'm not sure how quickly the stars move, or rather the earth, but 30 seconds may be enough to record a little of that movement in the sky making them appear soft.

Uploading a sample would be helpful for us to see the problem
