Hi

Ive seen some sites where you can enter for awards such as weddings etc

How do these work and with the price, such as one site charge £75 for entry !

Are you gaureenteed any award? Is it all a big waste of time?

Cheers

Unless they are from a recognised photography body they are worthless

If they are from a recognised photography body they are close to worthless as everyone theses days is an "Award Winning Photographer" (yes me too lol)

What's your motive for asking? Do you want awards for marketing purposes or to measure yourself and aim to improve?

Dave

Hahahaha both really Dave, mainly marketing purposes to be honest

Try the RPS:

Awards: http://rps.org/about/awards/nominations-are-closed

Distinctions: http://rps.org/distinctions

Although just a win in a local club competition will make you an 'Award Winning Photographer'. ;)

Only worth bothering with any if you're looking for self-improvement IMO.
How about a Good Record At Making PhotoS award ... just £75. ;)

Does that mean you pay £75 and they award you anyway lol

Yes on the other hand if i can learn more and improve then brill

Just read your capital letters will you send me a certificate and a trophy for best Upcoming Photographer 2019

In the film era the Kodak Gold Award was the recognised award for wedding and social photography. They were quite a big deal in the 1980s with award winners being featured in the photographic press. I've got one somewhere, I kept it all these years to remind myself not to agree to do weddings or portraiture.

It was free to enter, the only requirement I remember was using Kodak film.

If I entered a camera club raffle and won something, would that make me a prize winning photographer?! :giggle:

Never a truer word spoken.

Come on guys, I've got £75 on the line here! ;)
Get hold of a laser cutter and produce the certificate as a carved wood plaque. That's got to be worth £75! :coat:
