At last I have had the breathing space to do some proper (I'm in Yorkshire after all) reading. So I brought the Penguin book American Images: Photography 1945-1980 on holiday with me and I read the book this afternoon, including the rather deep essays, which I tried my best not to gloss over. The book is full to the brim of wonderful images, can't recommend it enough. And it sort of makes sense of different photographic trends although the overriding message is that of shifting sand.

Continuing... I spent the last couple of hours reading the book Duffy (Duffy Archive). Every picture is outstanding, and to read his opinions about his career is eye opening. The fashion photographs all have hidden depths, the composition, the humour, it's completely whole. That's my second choice of essential reading and looking, this week.
