Does anyone else give Christmas (and birthday) presents with photo's they have taken?

This year for my parents, in laws, and grandparents, I have made a photobook of my son, with a selection of photos from his first 3 years and a personalised message to each recipient on the back page. They'll love it, not cause the photos are great, but because it's their grandson! I'm also doing a few calendars for people!

I find it much more personal than pyjamas and slippers, and much more enjoyable than shuffling round the shops!

lets ban xmas talk until december!

its not just me that think christmas hype has came early.
i was suprised in tescos before october they had halloween stuff in. let alone further along they had started some christmas things.

but as for presents etc. i know my dad makes calendars for relatives. with pictures which i have took or himself of relatives and there picture being in that month which there birthday is with season reflecting backgrounds.

This will be my third year running where I've done a calendar for family and I'm thinking of doing a photobook as well this year for my Nan & Grandad

It's october people get a grip, Christmas is months away and all the hyped build up just leads too anti-climax. I can't believe I saw christmas tat in a shop in august this year it seems to get more obscene every year!

If your putting a photobook together then STAY WELL AWAY FROM CEWE from past experience they are dreadful quality, appaling at getting it right and customer service is just well.....none existant

i have done framed prints in the past! With it being a thing i do all the time (photography that is) Its like bringing home vouchers from a place of work, not much thought, or a last miute thing.

We do a photo calendar for the grandparents

I've just recieved this years calendars from DS Colour Labs. I made my own last year which were ok and very well recieved by mum and m-in-l but not very professional looking, so I thought I'd spend a bit this year.
They look pretty good actually.

Exactly - it's October. I work full time and volunteer up my local rugby club so need 3 months to get the calendars sorted out otherwise, they'll be ready in time for Easter.

Much as I hate all Christmas mention before December, there are some things that need sorting out well in advance

True but very sad, three months sorting out a pointless calendar should not be what Christmas is about.

I started making the Christmas cake last weekend!

(sorry, no relevance whatsoever, but thought i'd show my softer side) :D

Thanks very much for that comment. I'll try and explain to my Grandad with Alzheimers & Parkinsons that I won't bother making a calendar this year for him as it's pointless and I don't want to be sad. Might be pointless to you but when you have ill & elderly Grandparents, it's actually quite nice for them to receive something like that.

I don't spend 3 months sorting it out, as I said, I work full time and I volunteer elsewhere so I do it in the spare time I have, it's being a little more organised than I used to be.

Christmas for me is making my family happy and if a sad and pointless calendar or photobook does that then so be it.

its doesnt matter anyway
according to an advert i saw this morning Father Christmas is spending Christmas at Disneyland Paris.

I was thinking of using them int he future, has anybody else had bad experiences with them?

Yup, I did a family calendar last year and it went down a storm.

Might do a photobook this year as there are now 2 more grandchildren in the family :D

Did exactly the same as my folks live abroad, they loved em, not for the artistic talent though :thumbs:

I hope you feed it well:)

I ordered 15 calendars from Photobox at the start of November last year, and they arrived (after letters, faxes, emails, phone calls) on December 23rd. I'm not taking that risk this year and I'm currently working on them now, hopefully going to order in the next week or so.

I think it's fair enough getting stuff done early, particularly with online shopping. Lots of companies can't cope with the demand, so if the load is spread over a couple of months it benefits everybody.

I've never done it before but I really want to make something personalized this year. Does anyone have any good links for websites where you can make your own calender?

Have also just sorted out a calender for this xmas, can't remember the name of the firm used but very happy with results. I will post up name when I get back from work.

Used Fotobook, had a couple of samples which are really good so will now put in a larger order.

I've just had some cards printed for my mother with a christmassy border and a photograph of her dog.

I set my camera up and got my girlfriend to take a photo of my sisters and I, then got it put on 20x30 canvas for my parents anniversary present :)

Got a couple of extra prints for grandparents etc, having a decent camera makes family portraits so cheap! :)

Best...Post...EVER! Haha!

Anyway, i have done photos of animals in the past for family, framed them too.

This year, i put some work of mine on facebook, and one of my friends asked me to photograph her husband and his two brothers for their parents, and their child, for christmas presents! Bonus! Haha! Makes me a few extra £££s :D

Are they ribbed, for her pleasure? :D I don't really send people photos as gifts. Its strange but I just don't think of my work in that way, despite selling prints in a gallery. I have produced 2 books for my parents. One was a hand made style. I went out to where she grew up and photographed it all. I even managed to blag my way into her school. Turned up and asked. Scanned some old images in and got them redone. Glue them all into a lovely book and that was a nice present. For my Dad's 60th I got him a digital photo frame filled with photos of ships on the Mersey that I've secretly been taking all year, and with photos of my nephew. My parents wedding anniversary is soon and if I get the time I'd love to scan in their old wedding prints, fix the faded colours and produce a photo book for them. In that respect I think I would agree that photography is an absolutely unique and thoughtful gift. But thats me producing something for them, rather than simply printing off a library image through Photobox for £5 and sending it to someone.

I've never thought my photo's good enough to get printed. I tried Photobox last week when they were only charging postage for a calender. I didn't expect much but was surprised how good they looked. I'll be ordering a few for Xmas this year.

I always print a few canvases for friends and family around Christmas, it can be a bit expensive for decent size ones, but it's well worth it!
