I'm maybe looking at doing a photography course at my local college as they have a part time course on digital photography. This is the course:

http://www.nhc.ac.uk/coursedetails.aspx?coursecode=CNONXDIGP1&attendence=PT

At the moment, photography is a hobby, and I reckon it will always be (but you never know what the future holds), I would like to know and learn as much as possible, and be able to take quality pictures at the stroke of a hat lol. I could go on the internet etc and learn like this and from books myself, but I have always learnt better in front of a teacher and being shown what to do.

On the course description, it's a bit vague as what I would be learning, qualification etc. Has anyone done anything similar to these, are they worth it, or a complete waste of money.

Any advice would be great or if anyone knows of anything similar in the Stevenage area.

Cheers

There don't look to be any formal Quals associated with this - just appears to be a beginner's guide to taking images, with some studio and location work thrown in and some Photoshopping as well...

£130 seems a bit steep for that - this is the perfect example of Teach-It To yourself...using...books...

Yes...Books...amazes me how easily people forget about books.

Books have photos to compare your own to, diagrams to explain lighting set-ups, and tutorials (sometimes on an enclosed CD-ROM) to practice...

hi -spb-, im currently a full time student doing an access to photography course in dunfermline, at the end i will get a city & guilds, i plan to keep going after this one unless i get a job offer, one can never have too many skills, at the moment im learning IT, communications, dark room, portraits, landscapes .... ive been asked to take the wedding photographs for my nephew next year and photos for a hairdressing comp as well.... government have added the it and communications to the course because they think everyone should be able to communicate well no matter what course they do..hope this helps, ps... i get £354 bursary each month as well :)

That doesnt always work... Personally I prefer to be taught. Just dont have the discipline to self teach reading a book.

I fall in the same category as as derek F, what I do find useful for PS are the some of the guide CD's on the mags, along with the books they give you a visual explaination of what the afect should be. For a previous job I had to study the Cisco CCNA guide books, some books and this was one of them are a cure for insomnia; a good book on the other hand is always useful for reference.
