Apparantly I am getting a new camera and kit in a few weeks, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good college course to go on?

Hi Julian,

Are there any here of interest? Did a quick serach of wigan courses. Most seem to be beginners courses, but not sure of your level of experience.

Compared to you lot Im a novice novice

Hey Julian,

If I were you I'd avoid doing photography courses, I've done an A Level in Photography but I've found that 80% of what I learned came from putting into practice advice I'd gotten from fellow togs and camera clubs and TP! If I were you mate I'd take a look at finding a local Camera Club because most people there will not only be helpful but they'll be much friendlier too and there's always a good bit of banter in camera clubs

Just did a quick search and came up with Wigan Photographic Society. They even give you a cuppa & biscuits during their meets! They meet weekly at "Gidlow Methodist Church, Buckley St, Wigan" and they have a forum on their website too so it might be worth going on there and introducing yourself mate :)

I know of that one but they meet in the evenings, my nurses have me in bed for around 8pm.

Ah, fair point I didn't think of that. All the camera clubs/societies I know of meet in the evenings too!

I'd recommend this really good website based training course - it's called talk photography - you can learn lots - just take lots of photos, show us and we'll help you improve

If you can cope with a decent read, then there's one book that everyone on here recommends - think it's called "understanding exposure" or something like that?

I have heard this talk photography is a pretty friendly place.

I think a few North West meets are the way to learn, courses are OK but actually getting out there and doing it is the way to go!

You lucky barsteward. Thought you were married!!!!:naughty:

I started doing A level photography at college but sacked it, as it was more focused on arty farty stuff and sticking things in books. Total waste of time i thought.

Best thing has already been said. Take pics and post them on here. We'll take the Pee and say where we think you went right! Although we don't know **** all either!:D

lol I am married I just have the pleasure of 5 other women attending to the care needs giving my wife time off and time to see to the kids etc:D

You've probably been directed to them before but are these people any help?

All the best.

Yes mate i registered 2 months ago with them, I got an immediate message saying admin will have to approve my registration. It appears I was not successful for some reason, as I have not heard back from them.

Hi Julian..

Best way to get to know your camera is to stick it in back-pack and simply take it everywhere with you. It’ll be digital so snap away and follow your learning curve – just ‘delete’ or ‘keep’ :)

Either way...good luck, and above all enjoy it ;)

I hope you haven't already paid...
I was thinking of joining this group, but if you haven't even had a reply, I think I might give them a miss!
