I wonder if anyone could advise me on a good beginners photography course. I don't mind if it's online or an evening course. I live in Essex (Southend) if anyone could recommend a local course

Have you had a look at Jessops? They run a number of camera-specific courses in London which may be of interest to you.

Otherwise check out your local Adult Education classes. They usually have some kind of courses (unfortunately mine are all daytime ones so I can't use them!). Or there's the OU or PPSOP (Bryan Peterson) which are distance learning.

I keep looking at them all and can't decide which (if any!) to do! :)

Hi Scott,

Enquire with your local secondary/high schools and colleges; most places will have at least one night class that should suit you. Another option is to research local photography clubs in your area, most places welcome beginners and you’ll be able to learn without feeling like you’re actually being ‘schooled’.

Alternatively, you could keep an eye on the forum's Meeting Place and get yourself along to a local meet; you're sure to pick up a few tips from that.

Southend Adult Community College do a number of photography courses and also some Photoshop ones as well for your PP.

Hi Scottie, what are you looking to get out of the course?

Basic/advanced technique, qualifications?

I would suggest that if it's the latter, there's a load of information that can be found on here, it's certainly helped me :)

IMO the best way to learn is to go out and take pictures, post them up in the relavent sections and ask for critique, yes it can be brutal but it's a very quick and practicle way to learn the basics and a little bit more ;)

Once you're taking decent shots you can then figure out if there's anything more specialised you want to learn and take a course on :)

Having said that, the photos on your site look great IMO so I don't think you're doing much wrong as it is!

I have join journalism class during my high school days. Maybe there are schools about that. It helps me a lot, and the ideas I have is useful for being a graphic artist.
