Photography Holiday Hot Spot

Cant make my mind up, so thought id ask for help.

The wife and i want a small get away for 4 days, looked at going to Italy but in honest i don't know if i can be hassled with the whole Airport or Travel, so was thinking a car trip.

So either Wales or England. While away i want the opportunity to get some good photos done.

So any ideas?

I am essex based so i want to go afar rather then on the door step.

you do want to go far? if so would recommend Yorkshire, but then i would , but you have York for some nice architecture, scarborough and whitby for some nice sea scapes, and come back inland for the North yorks Moors, or dales, from essex driving, probably about 4 - 5 hrs but easy to break it up on your way
 
In 4 weeks I'm off to Italy, but being fed up with airports we are going by train. Eurostar to Paris, overnight sleeper to Venice for a few days. The onto Verona, Rome, Milan, then Zurich and back home via Paris again, stopping in each place for a couple of days. I thought I'd make the journey part of the adventure.

I'd go Italy as well, go to one of the lakes, I love lake Garda or Como. There's plenty to photograph around the lakes, not far from the mountains and not a long flight.

We are planning to go to France in July, Driving.

Trying to decide where to go as our daughter who is nearly 6 needs to have places where she can play etc.

Sounds like my ideal trip, & a pretty decent idea if you're looking to take a variety of photographs in new places!

Italy for me every time. I've toured it many times by motorcycle, the ideal way and also used hire cars. Pisa is a good spot and worth a day or so on its own. Luca is if in the Pisa area a must. If you like old walls, doors and windows you'll be in paradise. Also a trip on the train to Florence is cheap and easy. But wherever you end up have a good time and remember in spite of everything there are other things to do on holiday apart from taking photos, probably.
 
Tricky one...if it was purely for photography then the U.K has scenery to rival anywhere in the world & the changeable weather we have just adds to the possibilities....however if you're looking for culture and great food as well then Italy wins my vote!!

I'm just bs k from North Devon (Croyde) the weather wasn't perfect, but there was plenty to photograph. I can't wait to go again next year!
 
Gower, S.Wales. All along there southern coast of Wales is spectacular and also into the Black Mountains

If you are staying in the UK Andy Day 1) the head straight up the A1....stop off at York for the afternoon.....keep on going North until you hit Newcastle (good stop over). Day 2) Head over to the coast at Tynemouth and keep going North stopping off at various places until you hit Bamborough and Holy Island in Nothumberland (find a B&B). Day 3) Head North again over the border into Scotland and visit some of the East Lothian towns and villages aiming to reach Edinburgh by early evening. Day 4) Spend the day in Edinburgh ....:thumbs:
 
I've just got back from St Ives, the weather was fantastic and also some great places to photograph. I would have loved to get some daytime landscapes or seascapes but unfortunately I did not have the ND filter for long exposures.

I've been to Sorrento (Amalfi Coast) but my wife and I enjoyed St Ives a lot more. We have so many wonderful places at home to see and photograph.

I would say visit St Ives and walk along the Coastal Path towards Hayle, you will get some stunning pictures.

Did something similar in 2001, though we flew to Genoa, then did a rail trip stopping off at Florence, Rome and then Pisa for a plane back home - on September 10th, so we were rather glad we hadn't scheduled it a day later :eek:

Italian trains are very good value for money compared to the UK.

Hope you have a good time. I think I like a bit more value for my money though. :thinking: And I'm just talking about length of trip versus cost btw. ;) I'm sure the tuition will make the trip, and that's what you're paying for.


I love Italy too, though I've only seen a fraction of it in Rome, Pompeii and Venice. I went to Rome and Venice last year and I'm hoping to get to one of them again this year.


The tour by Byker28i sounds really good. :thumbs:
 
Thanks a lot guys plenty of food for thought.
We have now opt to stay in the uk & will plan our journey today.
