I wonder how many camera insurance companies bother to send this to their client

Important information regarding your Photoguard insurance and the recent civil unrest

As a valued customer, I’m writing to you concerning your insurance cover with Photoguard insurance and the recent terrible scenes of unrest.

Whilst I sincerely hope that it’s not the case, if you have been unfortunate enough to have been affected by the troubles and think that you need to make a claim, I want to ensure that we will support you in the best way we can.

We have set up a special ‘Helpline’ specifically to help and advise you through any potential claims process, so we can get you back to normality as swiftly as possible.

If you have been affected and require advice on your Photoguard insurance policy in relation to your property being damaged or stolen in the recent unrest; please call this ‘Helpline’ number without delay *********** (Monday – Friday from 9am – 5pm). Please do not use this number for any issue unrelated to the troubles.

Registration of any claim related to the disturbances within 7 days of the occurrence is vital, so if in doubt call us.

Sincerely,

James Pickering
Managing Director

I thought it was a good call to send that out. Was nice to see. I'm not effected by the riots but made me feel that if there was ever a problem they would sort it!

I wonder how many togs got gear smashed whilst trying to get some photos for the various news agencies...? would they be covered then?

Depends who they were insured with. Some yes, some no. BPPA / NUJ photo and the various associations are providing support / info. It's also my understanding that if not insured, then because this is now officially classed as a riot, photographers may be able to claim under the riot act.

Hmmm....maybe I'm just too cynical. I suspect the real reason is that if one of their clients has had damaged or stolen equipment in the recent disorder, and the matter is reported immediately, then they can claim compensation from the government due to the civil unrest. I think they are just looking after themselves rather than being particularly concerned about there policy holders.

I agree, as I understand it there is a 7 day claim limit if HMG are going to pick up the tab.

Having said that, Photoguard do seem to be a good insurer, a Lencarta customer had a claim and they settled it very quickly and efficiently.

"Call me Dave" Cameron announced during PMQs this afternoon the deadline had been extended to 42 days. I'd doubt that they'd cover any (non-professional) 'togs that had deliberately put themselves in harm's way though...
