Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes.
I have a new computer so do you know if it is possible to transfer the paper profiles from my old computer. Also will the monitor need recalibrated. Don't know much about these things:bang:

If you are on Windows then you can get all your ICC profiles (both printer and monitor) from %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\spool\drivers\color directory. Just copy them onto new system into the same directory. Regarding your monitor, if you have not changed it with the PC then you can reuse old profiles, otherwise you'd need to re-profile. The regular profiling is something that you should do anyway as devices like monitors and printers do change their characteristics over time.
Thanks Dalex. Is there any gear one can buy to do these chores myself or is it difficult? Is equipment for the monitor different from the paper profiling. i have a combined monitor and compute (HP Touchscreen) so it needs done. Also the paper profiles were done for pHOTOSHOP CS2. I am now using Elements 7 - does this make a difference and do i need to start again?
Thanks

Usually yes. Only spectrophotometer devices like Eye-One Pro will measure both reflective and emissive targets (prints and monitors) but those are expensive. Some cheaper variants include two devices one for monitor and one for printer. If you want to profile both and have a limited budget, then I'd suggest looking for Color Munki - it is relatively unexpensive and does both kind of devices.
As an alternative, you can get Gretag Macbeth Eye-One Pro device only (those are relatively cheap on eBay but quite rare) and use free software like Argyll CMS (not easy but gives excellent results).
For display only, I'd say Eye-One Display is the best.

The application which you print from does not matter - the combination of printer, paper and inks is. So if you haven't changed your printer, paper or ink types since last time you built printer profiles, you can continue using those.
