Photos ate my computer

Prior to last weekend I used to use Photos in Windows 10 to upload my pictures direct from a camera. I just selected the ones I wanted to import and it was a piece of cake. Now though it appears Microsoft have been monkeying around with a new version, and it is driving me to distraction. It takes forever to scan my camera's SD card, and the only option seems to be to upload the whole lot. To cap it all it doesn't even show my most recent shots. I just don't get that at all. Consequently I have had to physically remove the SD card from my camera and read it from my laptops card reader. I'm not a fan. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or even is there an alternative way of going about it?

I would always recommend removing the card and reading it directly, manually selecting the pictures to transfer - IMO windows is doing you a favour.

I now use Faststone Image Viewer which will import/copy from camera, card reader, phone or disk and can ignore previously imported/copied files.
It is free software for personal use.
