I'm looking to put my photos on some dvds for presents for friends n family. what would be the best type of Dvd to put them on? Baring in mind I would like them to play both on the computer and as a slideshow on the telly.

Also would you just copy the files onto the Dvd or do you need to put them throught a special processe?

Thanks in advance

Hayley

most dvd players now support Jpeg viewing so you can just drag them and burn them onto a dvd or cd even a usb stick. You can either create a slide show or let your dvd player play your pictures as a slide show.

Or you can get programs that create them for you with nice effects. Or do something really special in After effects.

There's a great program called Photo DVD Maker Pro which is very easy to install and use, and can be downloaded from various places on the web. You can use Jpeg files to add the photos, add transition effects, set the display length for each photo and add background music as well. The overall effect when viewed on a TV via a dvd player is fantastic. I did one for my aunt just after my uncle had died (which is why I needed the program) and she was just overwhelmed with it.

Alternatively, you can just burn a bunch of photos onto a blank disc with any burning program. I use Nero which is easily available and easy to use (and the manual for it is on the web) should you run into any problems.

If you have a printer that is capable of printing onto discs (such as Epson R300 or Epson P50) you can print one of the photos directly onto a printable blank disc and they look very professional, excellent for any present such as wedding, prom, birthdays etc.

if you have windows 7 the you can use the windows "live" suite to create a slideshow that can then be make into a "movie" which will play on any dvd player.

Hayley, to answer your first question DVD-R is the most common disk to use, discs created using these can be sent all over the world.

Discs that I have created for people have been sent to Canada, USA and Australia, I use DVD-R for everything photo or video.

Buy mine from Tonezoneuk.com , cost about £8.30 for 50 disks.

John:)
