Photoshop CS to Elements 8

I currently use LR2 for the majority of my processing but have the occasion to pop into PS for a few bits and pieces.

I did have CS2 electronic upgrade (fully registered and kosher) but due to a hard drive failure and lack of backups I managed to delete the electronic upgrade and licence and having no idea of my address or email at the time I purchased I've been unable to retrieve these details from Adobe.

I can't justify the upgrade to CS4 or beyond so was wondering if PSE8 was a worthwhile upgrade to CS. Anyone gone this route? Will imports happily ignore bridge to continue using the LR2 library?

I use the LR2 and Elements 8 combo without any problems.

Thanks muchly. Having all sorts of problems with CS in Windows 7 culminating in tonight not being able to even load an image I'd taken at all, either from LR2 or directly from the PSD in explorer.

Have tried Gimp before anyone mentions it and just couldn't get on with it. And not keen on installing trial software, afraid it'll clog up things when they never uninstall fully.

Anyone had experience of both CS and PSE8 and can let me know how PSE8 compares? I'm sure it'll do everything I want so not sure why I'm asking, just peace of mind I guess :)
