I came across this tonight and so thought I would post it - it's quite informative, there is also another version of the document for CS4 if you put that into the search box

The part I found interesting was that there is a limit to the amount of RAM photoshop cs3 can use and therefore it doesn't matter how much RAM your machine actually has over a certain point - The 64bit photoshop CS4 version could resolve this, but then the majority of pluggins won't work - bummer, especially since I've got 12Gb of RAM!!!!
