I just found out I have been using the 32 version of photoshop CS4 instead of the 64bit version

(it installed both versions on vista ultimate)

Are you running Vista 64bit or Vista 32bit?

If its 64bit then both versions are loaded during installation and you can choose either one to run. 32bit can be useful if you have plugins that are yet to be updated to 64bit.

There are very few plugins or filters available for the 64 bit version
 
Im using vista 64, i'll just carry on using the 32bit version then. I just wish it was a little quicker.
 
If you've got more than 4gb memory then the 64 bit version can use more memory and does appear to be faster to me.
 
I think the issue is down to the way it works with the gfx card now.
Its not really slow to run, just slow to draw, move around etc.

Although it is a lot better since I moved from Nvidia to ATI
