I have a copy of Photoshop CS3, what advantages would Lightroom give me in the "real" world, not just advertising blurb, if any?

Much faster/more useful workflow on raw images.
Think of it more as an addition not a replacement for cs.

Lightroom and Photoshop, IMO are not comparable products...

LR is more of a cataloging/quick editing program, with photoshop being used for more in depth processes (any real degree of cloning, cutting out and various other processes)

What LR is is a very efficient batch processing tool, with a build in database of all of your images. Much quicker to do basic edits in than opening each image into PS (save batch processing).

One compliments the other

OK thanks guys, I'll just stick with my PS for the mo then, I use my own cataloging system, developed since my days with film, many, many moons ago!

Personally, I think Lightroom is a revelation, and anyone with a DSLR and even the slightest interest in processing their images should give it a go.

I'd say download the 30 day Lightroom 2 trial rather than the Beta of Lightroom 3.

Can't wait for Lightroom 3 retail, but the Beta is slow and crashes lots on my (non-humble) PC

I have both CS3 Extended and Lightroom 2.6. I find I use Lightroom more than anything else now. Cropping, highlights, Exposure etc. If your a togger and need to make a choice I would highly recommend LR.
As Matt says, its much better for batch images and it has a good import/export tool. The one feature I really like about it is the Slide show. You can set up a slide show of all your processed images, put on a watermark and play it to clients. I use it on my laptop to show newly weds and let them pick the images they wish to have process/printed. Saves a load of time pre-printing and looks very proffesional. Your laptop becomes a travelling album and portfolio.
