Hi all
I am a little confused after thinking about getting Photoshop
there seems to be different ones to cover the varied aspects of photography
I am currently shooting landscape and birds and would be very grateful if somebody could tell me which one i would be best served by.

Hi i want to be able to crop on the birds mainly and also to enhance the colours on nature and landscape

You can easily do that without Photoshop, the software that came with your camera is more than adequate.

There's four versions.

Photoshop Elements
Photoshop Lightroom
Photoshop CS5
Photoshop Extended CS5

The last two are basically the same other than some added 3d funcionality in the extended version. CS5 version is perfect for all levels.

That said Ps Elements is a cut down version of CS5 but is still very useful and contains many of the key elements. Highly recommended by many beginners who can't afford the full version.

Lightroom is great for RAW editing and managing collections of your shoots and is exclellent at what it does. Offers a fairly simple but powerful way to edit your images although Photoshop does more

I recommend that you download the trial vesions and have a play with them.

There are also many other programs that will allow you to do most of the things that you may want to do to your pictures. A few are free (gimp and picasa for example) and there are some like ACDSee that are not free, but much more user friendly though all will take a bit of time to master.
I doubt that many of us who enjoy photography would ever need all that the most expensive version of photoshop offers..
As EOS JD says, most have free trial offers, so have a play before you spend anything, and good luck !

Elements is worth trying as it's cheapest and a quality bit of software

...and will meet the requirements of 90% of photographers.

What are you intending to do with Photoshop?

Hi John

Have you installed the software that came with your camera ?

Canon's free DPP and Zoombrowser are good photoediting tools.

If you install the software from your cd's, then jump on to Canon Europe web site and you can install the most recent free updates - these are updates, so you must have the software installed first...
