Hi,

I'm looking to put my work online.

I have a server with PHP/Mysql. I have basic coding ability.

What I need is:
- Ability to group photos and display a list of groups somewhere
- Ability to add static pages like "about me" and "clients" etc
- Ability to add paypal for each photo
- Under $100 (one-off)
- Have a swish appearance e.g. transitions between photos

Would be nice to have:
- Free!
- Automatic watermarking
- Show different resolutions and corresponding prices
- Slide-shows
- Descriptions for each photo

I didn't know that with Gallery you could add separate paypal prices for different resolutions of images?

Also, with Gallery is it possible to host the images on a different server to the one Gallery 2 is running on? (Different URL & IP)

you'll need to check the different check-out add-ons
i dont think you can run the photos from a different server (but i might be wrong)
 
Also consider Wordpress as a wrapper for the gallery which will give you the static pages, etc.
 
Cool - checked them out, they seem to have potential!

Seems like the thing which isn't so simple with Coppermine is adding paypal - fairly important. There's info on hacks but it doesn't seem to be a smooth implementation, a bit of a hack. Still, worth considering. Will have to enquire about hosting images on another server but thinking about it's not vital.

Looks like there's nothing available to make 4images use paypal!

I guess I'm going to have to increase my budget then! Any suggestions?

Using gallery with wordpress as a wrapper sounds like a good idea. Is it complicated? You wouldn't happen to have a tutorial for that would you? (I'm assuming you've done it before lol) :0)
 
Jalbum could be tied in with Wordpress - just via a standard link, you can edit the themes on both to match as I've done for my site (click my sig) - news is wordpress blog, gallery is jalbum. The rest of the site is HTML in DW, I just replicated the css over to the other parts to keep it consistent. But you could use wordpress as the main site and use the static page features. There are hundreds of tutorials for wordpress around, it's very simple to use and well supported :thumbs:
 
The checkout paypal, email etc that can be plugged into Gallery are under constant development by the author Alex and are virtually a one click install once you have gallery up and running. The order admin section that he developed a short while ago is great:clap: and he had just launched another beta with some more toys:thumbs: I use it and find it great.

Have a look at PixelPost, with the Fluid theme - you can see it running on my website (link in sig). Straightforward to set up, easy to administer, and configuring the Paypal side was a breeze - you can set up any number of print sizes/prices for each image.

It's free, plenty of Add-Ons for it (such as Slideshow, watermarking etc), and it looks none-too-shoddy!

That's the problem with out of the box, functional and in need of dressing :(
