Pics on Facebook - pros and cons

IIRC correctly Facebook changed their user agreement a few years ago to assume ownership of any content published, but this was revoked when users complained in vast numbers.

i dont think it ever said that, if i remember rightly they could use the images in adverts unless you opted out.

i think the whole facebook taking ownership was always just one of those facebook rumours like "facebook are going to start charging for usage, HOMG THINK OF THE CHILDREN..!!!!1111"

if youre that worried, just lob a logo in a corner.

It doesn't need to be a large image for Facebook, they support up to 2048px on the long edge, but 720px would be larger than I would upload to Facebook. Put a low res (480-720px) on FB, with watermark, and provide a link to the workshop gallery.

You always retain copyright, they reserve the right to use your images for any purpose but in reality this is unlikely unless you tag someone who then goes on to become famous/ commit a crime - FB is making good money licensing images outwards when the media needs a face quickly. Furthermore, it's not just pics- it's all your content.

I only ever put 640px images on FB, but IMO much better to put them on flickr and use FB to share a link to the set page or individual images.
