Not sure how it is with the Canon users but I've only just learned that when I change the settings in Nikon's Picture Control, sharpness, hue, saturation etc, this will only have an effect if the RAW image is opened in Capture NX2 or Nikon View.
It seems that most other RAW converters ignore the changes made.
As the image on the 3" camera screen is a .JPG file any changes made in Picture Control will show up in the image. It's easier to understand now why the RAW images on my PC monitor never look as sharp as the ones on the small camera screen.
