Picture resizing for TP

Sorry bit of a basic question but I am confused.

I need a bit of clarification

I am resizing a photo for this month’s Competition on TP the rules state it must be no more than 1024 pixels on the longest side, the guide on resizing photos on this forum say that pictures should be no more than 800 Pixels.

In PS I have resized the image to 1024 on the longest side (which is the vertical side as it’s a portrait) will this be within the rules?

:help:

Sounds like you're on the right track - you'd really need one of the mods to give the exact answer.

I use Elements 9 to convert RAW to JPEG and then convert for web with 950 pixels the longest side, maintaining proportions. Then just add a parameter to make the file no larger than 200kb and that's it.

If you need more detailed instructions, just ask.

Why 950? This is the bit that’s most confusing the tutorial says 800 max, the comp says 1024 max

Is the 200kb just for uploading to the forum?

am i right is saying the pixels affect the actual phyical size of the picture and the kb the size of the file size

and

you can change the size of the pixels without loosing quality of an image?

950 was my arbitrary size which I found worked ok with TP. 200Kb is the largest file size TP will accept but don't forget that file size is only indirectly linked to the pixel dimensions. File size is also related to the "content" of the image.

I think I am correct in saying that when re-sizing a JPEG image, you will always lose some quality, but at the size accepted by TP you won't notice the difference.

Hopefully someone else may expand on this as my knowledge is limited. (My photographic prints are produced commercially).
