Pink caterpillar ID needed please

This little fella was around an inch long and really bright pink, as you can see

An identification would be appreciated please

Never seen one of those before. Im afraid I cant give id, but this is:

it's not a caterpillar but something like a sawfly larva (what exactly I don't know though).

Thanks Luke and Scott. Now I know it's a sawfly but unable to id the species after hours of searching, I think one page said there are over 4000 different species in europe!
