just getting into photography so any comments on the above would be appreciated

also any recommendations for the best way to improve....take plenty of photos, join a club, read some books or all of the above?

Nice photo, especially for someone just getting in photography. Could make a nice photo cropped to a square because of its symmetry, others may disagree however.
For improving definitely all of the above but taking plenty of photo's and receiving critique is what i've found to be most helpful.
