i want to upgrade my snapper camera and see that 10Mp are possible with a 1/2.3" imager

my oly c765 is 4Mp on a 1/2.7" etc

i had a website which advised on the highest population on a sensor to give good results..i cant find it now

can anyone help here as i want to check the above cam's specification

cheers

TBH the limitation is probably the lens in front of it.

i agree on that but there was an article on the effects of packing too many pixels per square area ...etc
with a recommendation of the most desirable
so one can check the figures from the camera specs
those little cams are getting a bit big i thought for the sensors used

thanks
:)

If the article was more than a few months old then it'll be wrong. Sensor technology progresses so that more noise with increased pixel density is cancelled by better sensors.

Just look at the Canon D30 - released in 2000 - 3MP - up to ISO 1600. Compare it to the 7D - released in 2009 - 18MP - up to ISO 12800. A 600% increase in pixel number and three stops increase in sensitivity with similar noise.

^^^

There is a relationship betwen pixel density, sensor size and noise, but it keeps getting redrawn with every new camera.

If you are used to images from a compact camera, especially if it is a couple of years old, you will be blown away with what you get out of a new DSLR these days.
