Yes
I have been looking into buying a new Lens and found the lens at pixmania about £50 cheaper, the description doesn't mention warranty, but in the photograph of the lens, there is a section that clearly shows 5 years warranty

I contact pixmania, who put me in contact with the seller Futek, who a search lead me to an Italian based company, but the UK number was called and they told me that they only offer 2 years and its incorrect, apparently pixmania place the photos and Futekl only pass on the description and price.:cautious:

Glad i made the enquires in the first place, before parting with my money:eek:

Now looking into cameraforme, who say they are London based, but only offer 1 year warranty, but they can do it for £599, which is £200 cheaper, so i'm expecting a grey import, so can't offer the 5 years like other tamron dealers and looks like its their own warranty too

Having a .co.uk addy or saying they are UK based, doesn't automatically make it so. (procamerashop, BigNorman etc......ad infinitum) You pays your money & takes your chance, if you want to save a bigger % on initial purchase price Vs better/longer warranties & a better chance of legal/customer service later if needed.

According to Tamron 5 year warranty page the conditions of the warranty are as follows:

https://5years.tamron.eu/uk/warranty/Registerlens/action/showterms.html

Here are the most important terms and conditions of the extended 5 year warranty:
  • You are the end consumer and a resident of the European Union or one of the following countries: Andorra, Gibraltar, Iceland, Norway, Turkey or Ukraine.
  • You register the lens within 2 months of the purchase date.
  • You have bought the lens from a dealer in the EU or one of the following countries: Andorra, Gibraltar, Iceland, Norway, Turkey or Ukraine.
  • The lens was imported using official channels of Tamron Europe GmbH.
  • You are the first owner of the lens (the extended 5 year warranty is not transferable).
Carlos.gi in Gibraltar has the lens @ £658 inc delivery and afaik they ship from Spain so no duty or vat is payable as i understand it. And it would seem to qualify for the extended warranty.

Worth a call to Tamron to confirm it though and also to the dealer to confirm the vat / import arrangements so there are no nasty surprises!

cheers for all your inputs, i was aware of pixmania business practices and listing items out of the UK, but their photo is still misleading as by the looks of Sharky's T&C's coming from Italy wouldn't make it eligible

Anyway, sorted a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 IF DG HSM out a few moments ago for good money, so no need to worry

Good point on the Gibraltar idea too, for my impulse purchases a long zoom/a good macro lens

cheers all:)
