Folks,

I've moved in to this neck of the woods a couple of months ago and would like to know some good places around here for photography. My area of interest is mainly nature (landscapes, water bodies) but I would also like to dabble in a little bit of people/street photography and night photography.

It's time to take my gear out of cold storage (coming from a place where it is almost always more than 20-35 degrees, I mean that literally ;))

Any pointers will be much appreciated..

Cheers,
Naveen

Just to add...I'm here for a few months only (any must go places?) and for the time being I'll be relying on public transport :|

Suppose the obvious choice really for me has to be Blackpool for the illuminations:shrug:
Apart from that I canr be any help as not my area.

If you're into landscapes/water why not get yourself up to the Lake District? It's not too far away at all from Preston. You can get trains to Staveley or Windermere.

Mere Sands (train from Preston to Rufford then a short walk) and Martin Mere (train from Preston to New Lane or Burscough Bridge and then a short walk).

I like Mere Sands best. It's free it's not TOO much of a walk from Rufford railway station. I've just checked and it's £5 return on the train off peak.

Rivington. Full of water, and the extensive ruined gardens. Ideal for landscapes togging, and there's buses all the way there. And the two cafes are usually full of folk, especially bikers on a sunny afternoon. Can be very colourful.

Thank you all folks...

Rivington seems interesting for this weekend...the other places, in the weeks to come after that hopefully.

Cheers,
Naveen

Forest of Bowland, The Leeds and Liverpool canal try, Burnley embankment, Wigan Pier.

Must be the way people talk ..... To me places around preston means places in preston or maybe outskirts but basically preston area... Amazed to see replies for lake district, blackpool (spit) , burnley, wigan and all manner of places which if you live in preston are classed as nowehere near!

Sorry just an observation :)

Winckley Square and Avenham Park can be fruitful for landscapey stuff - especially as autumn approaches, River Ribble also, there's the docks, market and anywhere else in town for people shooting. Plenty of 'characters' in Preston! :)

Whoa!!! thank you all folks...Never realized that there are so many places 'in and around' Preston ;).
These should keep me busy at least until the holiday season :)
