Plastic lens mounts

Yes
I've just had my first experience of why plastic lens mounts are so bad.
Last night i put my camera away in my Lowepro rucksack and left it on a chair. This morning the rucksack was on the floor and the mount on my 55-250mm IS lens has snapped clean away :bang:

Why don't they just fit all lenses with metal mounts. It can't add that much more to manufacturing costs surely

It adds enough if you're producing them by the tens of thousands.....

Think about it. If they break then people will need to get replacements (hopefully more expensive ones) which translates to extra revenue. It is a shame really.

If it fell hard enough to break the mount, maybe a metal one would have ripped it clean out of the camera.

Metal mounts are not for greater strength, they are for better wear. Useful for people that change their lenses more than 100 times a day, over several years.

I may be playing devils advocate but aren't you just looking for something to put the blame on here? Maybe put your bag somewhere safer next time?

gutted! Then again a drop like that has probably buggered the internal alignment as well. Insured?

Not a good thing to happen but....

In my opinion its your bags lack of protection? and like mentioned above where/how the bag was left. (but we all do it at times)

Ive had a plastic mount lens for over 15 years and theres nothing wrong with them.

Plus ever seen a lens with a metal mount break off? I have.

Its the luck of the draw when things are dropped.
