hiya all, is going from a nikon d40, to a nikon d200 a good move? or is it to big a move, should i maybe go for a d60/d70..
im a photography student and i have out grown my d40, dont get me wrong i love to d40, i have had it for around a year now so i was thinkin upgrade time.

please help...

Hi Nigel, In my opinion going from a D40 to a D200 is a good move, due to the extra features you will gain. However only you can decide what features on the D200 will benefit you further. Some people would suggest you might be wiser to invest in better lenses. Again it's your choice. Good luck in what you decide. Rob

thanks for the help, what lens do you suggest?

Something with f/2.8. Maybe Tamron 17-50 or 28-75? Nikon have some goodies too but at higher price tag. A prime or two wouldn't hurt either.

What is it that you have out grown? Unless there is something specialist you want to do, there's very little that the D40 cannot accomplish, and do it very well too.

Unless you need a specific feature, you will gain far more by getting something that will extend your picture taking options - like a new lens, a low f/number lens, decent flash gun etc.

Nige, get the best you can afford.
When I was an impoverished student I ran a Nikon F3 + MD-4 and a Leica M6 - if nothing else it signals to the tutors that you're committed...or should be committed for spending so damn much on cameras when there's beer to be drunk...
