As some of you may know i purchase a ND3.0 as in 10 stop ND from Hitech and it gave the Iron Bru effect so after trying everything i gave in and returned it for the ND1.8 6 stop to try but it is exactly the same just not so strong.

Please see below and tell me what i am doing wrong?

This was shot RAW then saved as JPG but it is straight from camera without any adjustments, #2 was shot without the ND so you can cleary see the difference. Green becomes mild Iron Bru effect and nothing i do helps. I did use the cover on view finder, i tried custom white balance using white card along with various other wb options but they all come out the same. I know if i use curves in cs4 i can get the green back but it takes the warm and red thats needed elsewhere away completely too.

I dont understand what i am doin wrong here as i have seen D40 with 10 stop pics and they look fine.

1 (this should all be greens not iron bru)

For info the 10 stop gave me the same results as this link shows...

Yeah i used the Nikon DK-5 eyepiece cover during the shots but it made no difference, shooting at iso 200, f11, 4s on #1. Adjusted wb all sorts of ways and found auto to be the best but obviously still not useable.

I really want to make this work but i have to send it back like tomorrow and hoped the knowledge on here would correct my errors and allow green to stay green and not go iron bru :'(

your white is nice and white. I don't know nikons, but is there something similar to highlight tone priority on the canons?

I have heard there is a problem with this filter, ie it is not neutral, and with some cameras the sensor characteristics mean it cannot be corrected properly with custom white balance.

I have not used this filter but this is what HiTech told me when I was thinking of getting one.
