I purchased what was advertised as a canon ef 70-200 f2.8 IS II USM. The attachment (sorry if it’s not visible, new to this site, please let me know) is what I received and I believe this a mark I not II as I believe the mark II says so on the lens. Please can someone confirm if this is correct or not?

It's telling us we don't have permission to view the attachment

But just above the red ring it should have 'II' in the lens name afaik, right after the 'L IS'

I think the advise on the serial number has confirmed it. Seems it was made in 2003 but the mark II came out in 2010

The mk2 clearly shows the II here https://kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/images/70-200mm-f28-is-ii/D3S_6143-1200.jpg

So,
Bought new?
Secondhand from a dealer with good reputation?
Paperwork explicitly states you paid for a Mk2?
In the original box ~ what does that say on it and based on your question...........is it a Mk1 in a Mk2 box??????

Oh, and welcome to TP :)

PS ooops! I was typing and only refreshed to see your post above!

Thanks guys. Quick responses! Thought so but wanted to confirm. Bought on eBay (ok maybe a bad choice) but I double checked with the seller that it was mk2 and was told yes. But paid through PayPal on Amex so confident of getting money back. Just getting the proof together. Already purchased a replacement from a reputable company.

Glad you have sorted the situation to your satisfaction.................enjoy your new (to you) lens when you get it :)
