Please help me decide on a lens

I am looking to purchase a new lens for my 40D. It will mainly be used for static car shots including interior shots both at car shows and on location.

I would like a good quality sharp lens and have been looking at the following:

Canon 10-22
Canon 17-40

I have briefly tried a 10-22 on my body and was pleased with the quality of the images it produced and also the width of it, although I have slight concerns that it may produce a slight fisheye effect on some angles of cars.

I know nothing of the 17-40 other than it offers a longer focal range and will not be as wide.

What do you guys use for this type of photography? Please help.

PS would the Canon 17-55 be a better bet with the additional reach?

on your camera the 17-40 is more like 27-65 ish the 10-22 more like 16-35 ish.

the 17-40 is the full frame equivalent to the 10-22, for car shots the 10-22 would be nice would be able to get some good interior shots, i use a sigma 10-20 which is also a good one to look at.

i wouldnt of thought you would need the extra reach of the 17-55 unless the cars are quite far away.

10-22 is a great lens.

You will get a certain amount of distortion with any wide angle lens, the wider it is the more distortion you typically get.

You can get correction profiles for Lightroom or CS5 that allow you to correct any distortion created by the lens
