Edit My Images
No
Hi,

I am trying to change my picture resolution from 72ppi to 300ppi for printing purposes. My camera is 6 megapixels.

How can I do this? x

I have a fujufilm fine pix f650 camera set at the best quality images. I normally use photoscape and pixsresizer x

Looking at a screen shot for photoscape on the print menu have you selected 300dpi as the print resolution?

Welcome to TP by the way:)

Thanks for the reply, but i will not be printing the image.
I am a artist and upload my art to a site which makes prints off my art work, they want the images to be sent at a high resolution of 300ppi, my camera is set to 72ppi, how can i do this.

unless my googling skills fail, the camera outputs at 72dpi and that's it.

Only solution I could think of would be to open in photoshop/gimp and save as 300dpi but I have no idea what this would do to image quality.

The dpi is only for printing.
Your camera just loads the pixel data, it does not load at 72dpi, 300dpi, or any other dpi.

The software just puts a default figure in the ppi/dpi box. A lot of software still put 72ppi/dpi as AFAIK this used to be the standard monitor pixel resolution, therefore it gave an idea of the size the image would be on that standard monitor. Other software may stick 300 ppi/dpi in the box.

Nowadays monitors have different resolutions and different pixel sizes so ignore the dpi/ppi figure for everything except printing.

The picture data may be, for example, 3000 pixels by 2000 pixels, if you want to print a picture that is 10 inches wide then you need to print at 300 pixels per inch, or 300ppi (or confusingly dpi in some software) as 3000 pixels/10 inches = 300ppi.

Alternatively if you definitely want to print at 300ppi then you need to change the number of pixels to ensure that you get the correct size print. You can change the number of pixels using software to either take away or add pixels.

It's probably easiest to download some software to change the recorded dpi to 300. It saves a lot of arguments,( Been there, done it, easier to simply change the numbers)

Download the GIMP or XNview. Both will resize to 300dpi without any problem

Chappers thanks for your reply as you can tell i am not very good with this sort of thing can you tell me this software Gimp or XNveiw will i be uploading the images onto my computer using this software and is it a easy process i am not very techo minded.
