Hello
I want to upgrade my camera to DSLR, my budget is 1000-1500pounds,
checked this forum and still don't have an idea what camera and lens would suit me, I do most interior photography, working as a Tiler and when i finish my work i usually take some picks, would appreciate some advice from you guys, you can see what sort of photos i want to do in my web > www.protiling.co.uk
also have daughter 2 years old would love to take some photos of her too, Thanks for advice really appreciate

This is by no means a definite guide, just to give you a few ideas. For a camera body, I'd recommend going to your local camera shop and having a play with the latest Canon and Nikon offerings - they usually are the most popular.

Depends on what you want from the camera - professional build quality and flexibility that will get used a lot, or just casual use?

Nikon - Look at the (consumer) D3000, D5000, (advanced consumer) D90, (semi pro) D300s.

Canon - (consumer) 1000D, (advanced cons.) 450D/500D/550D , (semi pro) 50D or 7D.

For the interior shots I'd recommend a wide angle lens (something in the 10-20mm range on a APS-C camera) and a 'fast' prime - 50mm 1.8 for portraits.

thats a good amount of money,
i would go and have a feel of some cameras in shops.
there are some good deals out there also allow for some good glass and maybe a tripod.
just depends if you want higher spec(weather sealing, hd video, higher fps, advanced af systems)
pentax, sony, and olympus have built in shake reduction in the camera body, which will
work with any lens used on the body.

nikon and canon have shake reduction built in the lenses(lenses can be alot dearer)
and not all lenses have shake reduction.
+ some lower model nikon bodies dont have af motors built in body so you have to buy the lenses with the af motor in the lens which is dearer(not sure about canon),

i would be looking at some thing like this. as its fully weather sealed(take it out in the rain with no worries),, also still leaves money for tripod, also offers hd video, 14.6 meg, and lots of other features for your money. + the 17-70mm f4(not weather seled) and 18-55mm, 50-200mm both weather sealed.

i really want Canon :) thinking between canon eos 7d, 50d or new rebel 550d which coming out soon too, not too sure or this Canon EOS 550D worth time waiting, I don't need hd video, have separate camera for it, by the way don't know or better to get 1 good lens or 2-3 cheaper 1s :)

ok fare enough, and as for the lenses 2 lenses come as i kit and are probably the best kit lenses there are and the 17-70mm f4 is a £450 lens, what lens are you thinking about which will be much better.

Hi Don

The general consensus is that lenses are more important than the camera, therefore you might want to think which lens(es) you might want and then get the body afterwards.

A 7d with a poor quality lens may get you worse results than a 40d and a great lens, generally.

Another camera to consider would the the 5D (you would have to buy second hand). It is full frame, meaning it has a bigger sensor. If you did go down this route, only EF lenses will fit, not EFS lenses .

Some reasonably priced lenses that invariably get reviews include:

Tamron 17-50 f2.8 (non VR) or Canon 17-40 f4 L
Sigma 30mm f1.4 (could be ideal for your daughter) - there were some great shots on here the other day taken with that lens)
Canon 70-200 f4 L

Good luck

Al

Actually 1Ds 2 can be a great option. They have come down in price to near 5d level now, and the focusing is great. Coupled with a few affordable primes it makes an unbeatable combination.

Also, doing interior shots for your Professional Website, you might think about addditional lighting rather than relying on on-camera flash - which will always look like it was done on a point-and-shoot camera unless you're very lucky.
Look at some of the possibilities that have opened up using electronic flash (strobist) techniques...an extra flashgun and a commander unit will be invaluable for shooting the kind of work you describe...
