Hello I'm pretty new to all this and really need some help, I have a canon 1000D camera which has developed a slight fault when I switch it on and go to take a picture, if the flash is required it will automatically pop up, I then get 3 clicking noises followed by the message error 05, the camera works fine when the flash is not required, I'm in desperate need of help as I'm currently on holiday in Antigua for a wedding and will need the flash at some point.

That error code with the clicking i think means your flash is jammed,try looking around your pop up flash to see if anything is jamming it,also try a gentle press down on top of the flash.

Then switch it of and try again :)

See if theres anything around the flash mechanism, give it a blow with a bulb blower or similar. Push it up and down a few times to see if anything works free.
 
I get this on my 450D I would suggest that you've go something just jamming it a little as its still trying to operate just click to make it pop up and gently pull on the flash it should come up then give its a clean round the mechanism :thumbs:
 
The flash does still pop up however the small catch that releases the flash still clicks 3 times then the error message comes up, I am currently leaving the automatic flash up with the hope it may have somehow got damp??? And to dry it out, it's totally baffling me now and very frustrating
 
Use a blower and try and blow the mechanism through. It's probably just a little dirt. It's very common.
 
I don't have a blower to hand I have however been blowing into where the flash pops up as well as around the release catch, nothing so far but will continue to blow!!
 
I have now blown and ran out of air, still no luck, the flash continues to pop up then the error 05 appears???
 
I still say it's probably dirt, we have this problem often in the shop and it's usually just a case of a good blow through with a Hurricane blower. On the odd occasion that this has not worked the camera has been sent off to Canon for repair. The price will be down to where you take it but sending direct to Canon will be cheapest.

OK, maybe something that will help you get round not having a bit of help from flash while you are there. Find your self something to make a reflector with, bigger the better, some tin foil taped to a piece of card, or whatever - anything that will throw refelcted sunlight light back into faces. I know this will slow shooting down, and may require a spare pair of hands, but if you are going to be at a wedding, it may well help you get some nice pics you would otherwise struggle with.

you might have to shoot in something other than auto to try and stop the flash popping up, either AV or TV modes or P [does canon have a P?]
 
Thanks for all the advise hopefully I won't need the flash as the sun will be out, I will continue to blow to see if this helps if not tin foil it is.
 
I had this prob but my flash wouldn't release. There is a micro switch under one of the feet on the hot shoe make sure it's popped up and it's clean under there. This switch when pushed (external flash attached) stops the on oars flash popping up. There is also a micro switch somewhere near the back of the recess when your on board flash is up, check this is up and dust/dirt free. The last thing I did was when the flash was up flick the catch back n forth a few times see it it release the dirt that maybe be blocking it. I ended up using a cotton bud with lens cleaner on it an rubbing it into the arch and hinge mechanism. I also used a tiny amount of wd40 but dabbed any excess of on tissue before rubbishing it on the mechanism. This cleared my prob. You may not have all this to hand on holiday.....but try when you are back home before sending it for repair. I got quoted £80 + vat ...... Enjoy the wedding and rest of your hols.
